Sherry Saunders appointed senior vice president and general manager of Carlson Wagonlit Travel Canada
Toronto, Ont., Canada | January 04, 2011 — Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), a global leader specializing in business travel management, today announces Sherry Saunders has been appointed senior vice president and general manager, CWT Canada, effective immediately. Saunders has more than 26 years of corporate travel experience across sales, program management, information technology, and operations, and most recently served as vice president of Traveler & Transaction Services (TTS) for CWT Canada. In her new role, she is a member of the CWT North America Executive Team and reports to Jack O’Neill, president, CWT North America.
As the leader of CWT Canada, Saunders will now oversee all aspects of CWT Canada’s corporate travel, leisure travel, and Meetings & Events business, including setting the strategy for CWT Canada to best meet evolving client needs as well as managing relationships with current clients, potential clients, and suppliers, developing strategic partnerships, and more. In her role as vice president of TTS, Saunders managed CWT Canada’s operational strategy and execution, including overseeing a team of more than 350 travel professionals responsible for providing exceptional customer service to travelers. During her four years in that role, Saunders and her team achieved a 20 percent improvement in operational productivity.
Saunders also contributed to client satisfaction and retention through the creation of CWT Canada’s “Power of Partnership” initiative, which fosters senior-level relationships between CWT executives and clients. She also leads a team of employees across CWT North America responsible for integrating “green” behaviors into CWT’s culture at a grassroots level, as part of CWT’s focus on the environment, a key area of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
“Sherry has developed an incredibly strong customer focus while leading the team that directly serves travelers day in and day out,” said Jack O’Neill, president, CWT North America. “Her background makes her uniquely qualified for this new, expanded role and I am confident CWT Canada clients and their travelers will greatly benefit from her experience.”
Saunders shared that her immediate goals for CWT Canada are to enhance the organization’s focus on local client needs, to drive strong new sales across all areas of the business, and to continue to provide employees with the resources and support needed to excel in their roles and provide world-class client service.
“I am honored by this opportunity to lead the outstanding group of individuals that make up this organization,” Saunders added. “CWT Canada’s success is largely due to their commitment to act in our clients’ best interests every day, and that will remain our unwavering focus under my leadership.”
Saunders replaces Nick Vournakis, who led CWT Canada for the past three years and was recently appointed global vice president of the CWT Solutions Group.
