Drury Hotels Installs Solar Power in Three San Antonio Hotels
ST. LOUIS, MO – November 1, 2011 – Drury Hotels has installed solar photovoltaic energy systems in three San Antonio, Texas hotels. The Drury Inn & Suites Northwest Medical Center, Drury Inn & Suites near La Cantera Parkway and Drury Plaza Hotel San Antonio North hotels have over 100kW in solar photovoltaics. The three properties will offset approximately 156,000 kWh from the electric grid and save thousands of dollars annually. In an effort to preserve resources, embrace the future and promote sustainability within Drury Hotels, solar made sense.
The solar systems were purchased from Day and Night Solar out of Edwardsville, Illinois and installed by Corbo Electric from San Antonio. “Day & Night Solar, along with Lifeline Energy as the panel manufacturer, appreciates the opportunity to work with such a progressive client as Drury Hotels,” explains Melinda Kershaw, Director of Marketing for Day & Night Solar. “By capturing incentives available in the San Antonio marketplace, Drury has set themselves apart as a leader in the hotel industry.”
At the Drury Plaza Hotel San Antonio North location, a 33.6kW solar photovoltaic roof mounted system was installed. At Drury Inn & Suites Northwest Medical Center and Drury Inn & Suites near La Cantera Parkway, 36kW solar photovoltaic systems were installed on three parking lot shade structures (sun arbors) at each hotel. These structures also offer shade to hotel guests. In total, the three solar photovoltaic systems will prevent approximately 17,952 lbs. of coal from being burned, and 31,843 lbs. of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere each month.
“Drury Hotels has been proactive in constructing well-built and environmentally friendly hotels to last for many years,” said Dennis Vollink, President of Drury Southwest, Inc. “The solar photovoltaics are just a portion of our efforts to improve the efficiency of our buildings. We build our hotels to exceed the ASHRAE standards for fresh air and energy efficiency, and currently have one LEED Certified hotel, with two others seeking certification.”
A family-owned and operated company, Drury was recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for ranking “Highest in Guest Satisfaction Among Mid-Scale Limited Service Hotel Chains, Six Years in a Row” in the firm’s 2011 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Studysm.
