Freightliner Trucks Celebrates Manufacturing Day; Marks First Truck Delivery to NCDOT
FORT MILL, SC. – Oct. 3, 2014 – Today, Freightliner Trucks marked Manufacturing Day 2014 with the delivery of the first of 67 Freightliner 114SD severe duty trucks to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The event was held at the world headquarters of The Godwin Group, in Dunn, N.C., and was attended by North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, Chief Deputy Secretary Nick Tennyson and Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker.
”Freightliner Trucks and The Godwin Group provide compelling evidence that North Carolina workers can compete and win on the world manufacturing stage,” Governor McCrory said. “Making things is part of this state’s DNA and more manufacturers across the globe are discovering that if they want their products produced efficiently and with high quality, they’ll want them made in North Carolina.”
Freightliner 114SD trucks are manufactured at the Freightliner Mt. Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant in Mt. Holly, N.C. The NCDOT trucks are equipped with Cummins ISL9 engines built in Rocky Mount, N.C., and feature dump bodies and snow removal equipment manufactured by The Godwin Group. The trucks also include Meritor driveline components from Fletcher, Forest City and Laurinburg in N.C., and Manning and York, in S.C., metal castings and structural plastics from ConMet in Monroe and Bryson City, N.C.
“We are happy to recognize Manufacturing Day 2014 at this event, and even more pleased to share this occasion with the Governor and some of our North Carolina-based manufacturing partners,” said Mark Hernandez, plant manager of the Freightliner Trucks Mt. Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant. “We are proud of the trucks we produce here, and proud to call the North Carolina Department of Transportation a customer.”
The Freightliner 114SD is a versatile truck that is designed for challenging applications such as dump, construction, plow and cranes.
Terry Keith, vocational truck sales manager and his team at the Freightliner Charlotte Truck Center in Charlotte, N.C., reviewed the specifications and submitted the winning bid to NCDOT.
