Norwalk Furniture Unveils Latest Fabric Trends, Ever Sophisticated Twists on Familiar Themes Punched with Color
Sometimes Soothing but Always a Statement
NORWALK, OHIO, Oct. 18, 2014 – If you follow fashion and interior design, you’ve probably noticed a trend toward more trends. While there used to be one or two dominant color or fabric stories per season, style setters today seem to be taking things up a notch.
“Spring 2015 is all about pulling together sophisticated mixes of color, pattern and texture that make your home both refreshingly of-the-moment and beautifully timeless,” says Dixon Bartlett, merchandiser for Norwalk Furniture. “Colors this season range from cool watery hues and restful near-neutrals to luscious berries and earthy metallics. Textures — lustrous leathers, heavily textured wovens, and embossed velvets — add incredible dimension and a shot of style.”
If a multitude of choices seems mind-boggling, don’t worry. Norwalk’s top designers have taken the guesswork out of creating a home that is expertly coordinated, deeply personal and perfectly on trend.
Norwalk highlights four themes in coordinated colors, patterns and textures for sofas, sectionals, chairs, ottomans and pillows. The 800 fabric choices include 125 new fabrics for Spring 2015.
On Shore
With watery themes and a decidedly luminous attitude, Norwalk’s On Shore colorway celebrates an abundance of mid-tone ocean hues. From the lavender reflections of early morning to the jades and teals of the deep sea, On Shore plays with familiar marine themes in a decidedly feel-good way. When anchored by limestone gray, these softly outlined patterns and vaporous color combinations present a fresh, clean and calming palette.
“This is the restful side of the navy and white marine palette that is so popular. Blues and whites have been done a thousand ways, but these are softer tones,” Bartlett says. “Many of the prints and some of the wovens are a little blurred. Patterns are lightly outlined, with a sea-like quality. Look for a few underwater motifs, Batik-like block prints and very loose watercolor stripes.”
Cheval
Inspired by a painting from renowned Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave, Norwalk’s Cheval palette reflects the rich hues used by Eurasian tribes in their hand loomed textiles. Currently popular Suzani and Turkmenistan themes add a lively play of richly layered textures and patterns. Key shades of mulberry, Bordeaux, wheat and gold contribute to the warm embrace of this colorway.
“Eurasian patterns, especially swirls, circles and overscale floated florals have been popular for the last several years. We’ve expanded on that trend with exuberant colors and luxurious textures,” Bartlett says. “We’ve used embossed and plain velvets, heavily textured base cloths with a handloomed quality, and leathers with a lustrous finish. Prints with touches of metallic gold catch the light. Among the fabrics is Cheval, an Isabelle de Borchgrave for Fabricut print that mimics an elaborate horse blanket.”
Twilight
Serene, sophisticated and modern, Norwalk’s Twilight theme addresses the current trend toward a neutral and restful decorative approach. Deep blue-cast grays, accented with soft mustard, celadon, moonstone and powder blue compose a soothing and peaceful atmosphere. Misty haze and nature-inspired color combinations create a hushed and tranquil mood and are a perfect setting for Norwalk’s new SleepOver Solutions.
“Twilight is the perfect palette for those who appreciate color yet prefer to surround themselves with calmness,” Bartlett says. “With deep slate base colors, accented with the softest moonstone and powder blue, Twilight comes across as nearly neutral. Touches of mustard and celadon add a hint of punch to these quiet colors in a very modern combination.”
Urban Earth
Norwalk’s Urban Studio collection addresses a decidedly more nature-inspired palette than have past collections. Natural pigments of bronze, copper and charcoal reflect a respect for the earth in metallic and organic colorways. Fur, feathers and leather support and add to this muscular theme. Here, the absence of bright colors bespeaks a reverence for earth elements and provides a counterpoint to Norwalk’s lighthearted On Shore theme.
“Urban Earth is primarily a texture story with incredibly tactile wovens, leathers and velvets in rich, natural colors,” Bartlett says. “Patterns include animal prints such as python, zebra and giraffe – and other natural motifs, such as feathers, geodes and wood grains. Midtone gray and brown base colors, accented with bronze and copper, play well with reclaimed wood furniture and natural objets d’art. Touches of silver and gold metallic thread, as well as a handful of metallic leathers, add luminescence.”
