Online Voting Under Way to Select the 2011 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year
ST. LOUIS (May 17, 2011) – Online voters are invited to help select Monsanto’s America’s Farmers Mom of the Year 2011. American Agri-Women and Monsanto have selected five amazing farm moms from across the country as regional winners. Now, online voters will determine the national winner by visiting www.AmericasFarmers.com, reading the regional winners’ nominations and casting a vote for their favorite by May 26.
Each regional winner has won a $5,000 cash prize from Monsanto and advanced to compete for the national title. The farm mom receiving the most online votes will receive an additional $2,500 and be named the 2011 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year, to be announced May 27. The regional winners are:
- Northwest Region: Bette Lu Lerwick, Albin, Wyoming
- Southwest Region: Kerri Vander Poel, Bakersfield, California
- Midwest Region: April Hemmes, Hampton, Iowa
- Northeast Region: Jennie Schmidt, Sudlersville, Maryland
- Southeast Region: Teresa Chambers, Macon, Georgia
A profile of each, along with her winning nomination, will remain posted on AmericasFarmers.com until May 26, the voting deadline.
The American Agri-Women, a national coalition of women’s farm, ranch and agribusiness organizations, partnered with Monsanto and evaluated nominations on how each farm mom embodies the farm family way of life. Each was judged on her contributions to her farm, family, community and the agricultural industry.
“It was no small challenge to select just five, but each regional winner represents the enormous impact that farm women have on their families, farms, communities and beyond,” says Chris Chavis, Monsanto’s National Brands Lead and America’s Farmers Mom of the Year spokesperson. “The nominations illustrate that no matter where or what they farm, farm moms share a passion for agriculture, a love for the family farm lifestyle and a dedication to preserving the land for the farmers of tomorrow.”
Monsanto’s America’s Farmers Mom of the Year is an extension of the America’s Farmers program, which celebrates the contributions of America’s farmers, who provide food, energy and clothing for a growing planet. The America’s Farmers Mom of the Year contest was introduced in 2010, when online voting selected the Southwest regional winner, Carol Cowan, of Watonga, Okla., as the first national winner.
